GPS
I just received my GPS! It is the Spot Gen3. This GPS is simply a tracker and will allow me to share my location whenever I wish. I have set it up to post to this blog with my location whenever I set up camp or whenever I hit a town to pick up a resupply. There's also an SOS feature in case my life is in danger- when pressed it will send my location to the GEOS International Emergency Response Center. Glad to have this thing!

First, if you were not aware already, I'm aiming to post on a blog as often as I can and I have set this up at pct.derekantrican.com . I'll try to post real stories and updates every time I resupply. In addition- I'm going to attempt to set up a system that will post every night with the GPS coordinates of where I am camping for that night.
Secondly, if you would like to help with my adventure, I could use some help with my resupply boxes. I have set up a spreadsheet with a list of meal ideas, how many required, where to send them, etc. If you feel so inclined, you can sign up to pack and send me one of these boxes at pctresupply.derekantrican.com . The instructions should be clear, but if not- please send me an email at derekantrican@gmail.com . (I don't expect all of you to send me a box))
Finally, prayer for this trip would be much appreciated. Please pray that God keeps my confidence up and that I can be an emblem of him on this journey. Please also pray for a couple main worries I have on this trip- that I can achieve the goals set by my schedule (I have to start a job on Oct 16 and have to be back in Ohio for that), that the food for my trip is enough so that I don't lose too much weight, and that God keeps the wild animals (particularly bears) at bay.
Thank you! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! If you would like to find out more about the PCT, go here:pcta.org

Resupplys
Hey everyone! Life's been pretty crazy with school and such, but I think I've pretty much got my resupplys set for the trail (thanks to pctplanner.com)! You can see them on the second tab of my spreadsheet here: goo.gl/UOkOFI . If you would like to help out with my journey, there are a couple ways: 1) Send me a box to one of these resupplys (let me know if you want to do this and I'll tell you what to send and where to send it) or 2) if you live near a resupply that is far from the trail (one of the red resupplys in the spreadsheet), I would very much appreciate a ride from the trail and back!
Thanks and I'll keep you guys updated!

Let the Pacific Crest Trail-Related Posting Commence!
Here is my first post! Now usually hikers use trailjournal.com for their hiking journals and to share their gear, but I have decided to use blogger as I can connect it to a variety of different automation services to post in creative ways (via SMS, for instance). TrailJournal also doesn't have a mobile app and since I'll have my phone with me, I'll be likely using the mobile app to post.
Check out the sidebar (yeah, over there on the right!) to follow updates by email or to see my gear list (via geargrams.com) or to see a detailed spreadsheet of resupply locations, hiking distances, and other information. Keep in mind that at this stage both of these links are very much a work in progress.
Finally, if you'd like to send me a resupply box, that'd be great! Let me know and I'll give you a list of the things I'm buying and a proper address and such to send it to. (By Christmas I plan to have the spreadsheet updated with at least 5 different types of boxes, fully planned out with what should go in each. So if you wish to send me a box during my hike, it should be super easy at that point.)
